Attendance:  Kenna, Kendall, Tucker, Caryn, Tabitha, Katie, Levi, Madison, Sam, Kabel, Mandy

Letters to Seniors

The group would like to send the letters to seniors like they did last year.  They are going to review and see if they want to make any changes or leave it the way it is.

YADAPP

Asked who wants to attend the State YADAPP conference July 19th through the 22nd.  We have two interested for sure and some others looking at it.  Youth do not have to be part of the coalition to attend but must be rising 8th graders at least.

Town Hall Meeting

Kendall, Caryn and Sam will be representing Glenvar at the valley wide town hall meeting on April 20th at Virginia Western Community College.  They will sit on a panel and receive an award for their work.

Global Youth Services Day

We will be doing a valley wide sticker shock compaign on April 24th for Global Youth Services day.  There were no Glenvar volunteers for this activity.

Pitch For Prevention

June 16th there will be a fundraiser with the Salem Red Sox’s to raise money for youth activity’s through the Prevention Council.  Tickets can be purchased for $6.

Elementary Presentations

April 20th the group will go to Glenvar Elementary 5th grade classes to present to all 5th graders about moving up to the middle school.  On May 25th the will go to Fort Lewis to present to their 5th graders as well.

February 16th , 2010

Attendance:  Kenna, Kendall, Sam, Tucker, Caryn, Tabitha, Katie, Jon, Devin

CADCA Convention

Kendall gave an update as to what she learned at the convention she attended in DC last week.  Next month we are going to take the Strategic Prevention Framework process that she was taught and use it to identify the next project we want to take on.

Talent Show Update

We moved the talent show to February 26th due to weather.  We will start practices on the 26th at 5:00PM to do sound checks.  We will also have one practice on 2/24 for anyone that can make it from 3:30 to 5:30 in the forum.
We are doing a test texting right now but we would like to do text polling at the show and ask 4 prevention related questions.
We have more then half of our super hero’s identified and they are working on a skit.

North Cross Presentation

Seven of our youth went to North Cross on January 28th and presented to approximately 300 students and parents there.  Feedback was positive and we have learned even more on how to improve for the future.  One thing is to shut down bad questions quicker.  We were looking to see when we can set dates for Fort Lewis, Glenvar Elem. 5th graders, Glen Cove and Mason’s Cove.  There is a survey that has been sent to North Cross to see if we can get some more feedback from them.

Regional YADAPP

Regional YADAPP is March 27th at Northside HS.  Mandy has agreed to head up work on the Snitching VS Helping workshop for the presentation.  Kendall will be heading up the Social networking workshop.  Need to work on these next month.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be March  16 from 10 AM to 11 AM in the forum.
